Our Story

The Forman Family Story

Our story starts in southern Maryland. Kay, Harry Truemans granddaughter, met Larry in a college in southeastern Kentucky. Neither of them could have known then that this simple meeting, far from both of their hometowns, would become the beginning of a lifelong story. What started as a chance encounter grew into love, family, faith, laughter, and shared adventure—and thus began the Forman family.

A few years after they were married, Larry and Kay returned to Calvert County, where they made their home at the Trueman farmhouse, a cherished family estate filled with history, memory, and deep roots. In that beloved place, they built a life together and raised two daughters. They also gave their hearts to the community through their work as teachers at Calvert High School, where they shared not only knowledge, but care, encouragement, and a lasting commitment to the young people of Calvert County.

It was more than a business decision; it was a step of faith connected to family legacy, hard work, and the community they loved.

In 1984, Larry and Kay were given the opportunity to buy out the other members of the family-owned H.B. Trueman Lumber Company. It was more than a business decision; it was a step of faith connected to family legacy, hard work, and the community they loved. But in 1992, during a major building recession, the business folded. Suddenly, the Formans were left with seven buildings on five acres of land, facing an uncertain future and wondering what God had planned for them next.

With much prayer, determination, and trust, Larry and Kay chose not to give up. Instead, they began the long and daunting work of turning the old lumber company into something completely new. Over time, the lumberyard’s historic structures were lovingly transformed into charming shops and convenient rental spaces. Since then, the business has grown to include more than 100 dealers offering antiques, collectibles, gifts, art, and so much more. Through every season, the Formans’ mission has remained to serve every customer with honesty, integrity, great value, and genuine care, guided by a foundation of biblical Christian principles.
